Rochester Memorial honored for being environmentally-friendly

Nov 2, 2012

It's good to be green in Rochester.

One year after its renovation and expansion, Rochester Memorial School is being honored for its sustainable design.

On Thursday, Old Rochester Regional School District Superintendent Doug White informed the members of the town's School Committee of the recognition from the Massachusetts Collaborative for High Performance Schools, a program that honors and encourages environmentally-friendly building options for schools.

Last fall, the school reopened following extensive renovations, which included the additions of new technology, furnishings, and expanded classrooms.

Since then, the ORR School District Administration and the school's staff have worked on improving the use of resources in the building, including saving money on the cost of utilities.

Rochester Memorial will be honored as a verified school at a reception in Boston later this month.

White commended the efforts of the school's Building Committee as well as the School Committee for promoting green practices in the school.

"It was an effort of many individuals working together," White said.
