On Saturday, Dec. 6 at 9 a.m., runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to take to the streets of Mattapoisett and do a 3 mile loop around Ned’s Point decked out in Santa gear.
Santa suits will be provided for the first 500 adult registrations, 13-years-old and up. Santa hats and stickers will be provided to the first 100 youth registrations, 12-years-old and under.
“Anytime you can bring a group of people together for a good cause that right there kind of builds community,” said Pease.
MS stands for multiple sclerosis, which is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the nervous system. Symptoms can include muscle weakness, lack of coordination and vision loss.
Pease, a mother of four, was inspired by her 9-year-old daughter, Juliet, who suggested the idea last year to support and celebrate those diagnosed with MS.
“I think [Juliet] is just the best thing in the world for coming up with the idea and obviously when you're eight or nine years old, you can't do that on your own — but she has helped in every way that she possibly can at home,” said Pease.
Pease explained her daughter has made signs, helped raise money and created flyers to spread the word.
“One of our mottos is that we run for those who can't and we raise money in any way that we can to supply resources and essentials to people who might not be as fortunate with their mobility,” Pease said.
Hoping raceday will be busy, but organized, Pease is excited for the community to come together.
“It just makes me smile seeing everybody dressed up and coming together to support our community and have fun with their family and their friends and it's just such a fun atmosphere,” said Pease.
The event will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 beginning and ending at Mattapoisett Town Wharf near Shipyard Park.
