UPDATE: The storm has now passed as of 1:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather alert at 12:15 for a string of thunderstorms capable of producing winds up to 50mph that will affect Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester as well as Plymouth, Acushnet and Wareham.

Residents are urged to get inside as the storm passes.  Winds may be capable of downing small branches and causing street flooding in areas with poor drainage.

The storm is also causing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.

Boaters should also exercise extra caution.
