Sippican School enlists former teacher to provide math support

MARION — This year Sippican Elementary School has introduced a new role to its staff, enlisting a former teacher as a math interventionist.
Principal Lynn Dessert announced Leanne Dineen, a former fourth-grade teacher, has been moved to the new job during a School Committee meeting Thursday, Sept. 17.
Dineen works with students who need additional support as they learn math, and Dessert said there have already been positive results.
“It's September, 10 or 11 days into school,” she said. “The leverage that we've been able to do with having a lens in math has been incredible, so I'm really excited about this.”
She said the job is part of the school’s efforts to provide classrooms with needed support and meet academic benchmarks.
Funding for the interventionist role was approved at Town Meeting, and Dessert said she can’t thank voters enough for supporting the new position.
“It’s wonderful that it's actually rolled out and that we're bringing it to our students,”Dessert said. “We're looking forward to that and seeing the benefits that that's gonna have.”
