WITH SLIDESHOW: Marion Art Center hosts 6th annual Arts in the Park
Shovel art?
Those in search of a few unique works of art, needed to look no further than Bicentennial Park in Marion on Saturday, July 7.
Stephen Koleshis of Sterling brought his recycled and repurposed metal art to the Marion Art Center’s 6th annual Arts in the Park event.
Koleshis’ art consists of old metal shovels transformed into decorations.
“Metal is easy to find because everyone throws their old shovels away. This is not something you are going to find a lot of people doing,” Koleshis said.
With 43 artists, including sculptors, doll makers, painters and potters, the park was filled with vendor stands and exhibits.
“We’re absolutely excited,” said Art Center director Deborah Bokelkamp. “Each artist has brought something unique and beautiful with fine art, ceramics, jewelry and painting – you name it.”
Along with a few newcomers, the event welcomed back many returning artists.
Barb Harrold of Georgetown has brought her dolls to the show since it first began.
“I get to come every year. It’s a nice show to come to and to be a part of,” Harrold said.
Marion resident Lissa Magauran agreed. Magauran exhibited decorative cans painted with flowers.
“It’s a really nice show because you get to know the other artists and see how everyone is doing and how they’re progressing,” Magauran said.
