The recent warm weather is bringing out the best in everyone, including the amazing creatures waking in ponds after a long winter. Learn more about vernal pools at the Mattapoisett Library on Tuesday, April 14th at 6:30 p.m.
Members of the Mattapoisett Land Trust and Elizabeth Leidhold, Conservation Agent and Director of the Marion Natural History Museum, will show slides of vernal pool creatures and spring conditions, including amazing fairy shrimp, wood frogs, and blue spotted salamanders!
What exactly is a vernal pool, and how is it different from a pond? What should you look for? How does a vernal pool become "certified" and why? Find out about this vibrant ecosystem and enjoy its spring rebirth.
On Saturday, April 18th from 10 am to 12 pm everyone is invited meet at Old Field Farm on New Bedford Rd in Rochester to search for species and Certify a Vernal Pool. Wear your boots and be in on the action!

The program is part of a year-long science and nature program with the tri-town public libraries, for students in grades 3 - 8 and their families, and it is supported with federal funds, administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
