Students kept off fields at Rochester Memorial
Rochester Memorial School is having a problem with grass seeds on its fields, which has prompted the school's officials to render the fields off limits to students.
On Thursday, the Rochester School Committee addressed the issue.
Tim Scholz, a member of the school’s now-disbanded Building Committee, said the problem with the seed could have been caused by a number of factors including the weather.
Cold air and temperatures as well as a lack of moisture can hinder the seeds from growing.
“The seed just hasn’t taken in the soil,” said Scholz, also a School Committee member.
The Building Committee disbanded last month now that the renovations of the elementary school have been completed $920,000 under budget. Scholz said school officials will continue to closely monitor the problem with the fields.
Scholz added that he would report back to the School Committee in January.
“We’re hoping to resolve the landscaping issue soon,” he said.
