Take a babysitting class
The Mattapoisett Congregational Church will be offering tri-town teens the chance to learn the babysitting basics from 6:45 to 9 p.m. The course will cover basic first aid, door and telephone protocol, bedtime, mealtime and discipline procedures, contracts and ethics, and how to prevent accidents. Children must be 11 or older to attend the course and the cost is $37.

Lace up your running shoes
Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School Cross Country team and National Honor Society are jointly hosting the 7th annual Frosty Runner Road Race on Jan. 26 for runners who don’t mind the cold. There are options to run a 10.5 course or run/walk a 3.1 course. All races begin and end at the school, and registration and number pickup begins at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the race. Post-race food and refreshments will be served to all registered participants. There will be awards for top and divisional finishers.

Shop local produce
The Farmers Market will open up in the Old Rochester Junior High School gymnasium at 10 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. Shoppers will have a selection of local produce to choose from, including breads, grass fed meats, pork and chicken, eggs, honey, gluten free and healthy sweets, soups, syrup, fudge, and other goods. There will also be live entertainment during the event as well as stories and crafts for children.

Get some brunch
Grab some brunch with family and friends at the third annual brunch hosted by The Friends of Old Rochester Music at The Inn On Shipyard Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featuring live music from Old Rochester student musicians, all the proceeds will benefit the local group. View glass creatures
The Marion Council on Aging will show off a collection of glass animals during a lecture by Kirk Nelson beginning at 12:30 p.m. Neslon, President and Executive Director of the New Bedford Museum of Glass, will give the lecture which features some pieces of art from the largest public collection of glass animals in the country. There will be a catered lunch of baked lasagna before the lecture. Reservations will be required for the lunch and made before Jan. 24. To make a reservation, call 508-748-3570.

Take the toddlers to storytime
The Mattapoisett Free Public Library will be hosting it’s Mother Goose on the Loose storytime, which it suggests is best for toddlers and infants, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will be simple stories, songs, and nursery rhymes — and there is no registration required.
