Time to restore the Clock of Marion: Clock Tower Committee asks for support
Event Date:
MARION — Built in 1872, the official Clock of Marion is an iconic symbol of the town’s rich history that was taken care of by the town until the 1950s when maintenance budgets were cut.
Today, the Clock of Marion is inoperable with no hourly chimes and the aging hands slipping from their intended position.
The recently formed Clock Tower Restoration Sub Committee has been accepted for a grant from the Community Preservation Act that will contribute to the restoration of the clock.
A vote will take place at the annual Town Meeting on Monday, May 12 to decide if the grant will be given to the committee to fund the restoration.
The committee is asking for citizen support in voting to restore the historic tower to its former glory.
