Tri-Town gets state funds to improve roads in poor condition

May 2, 2022

The Tri-Town communities will be awarded funds to address repairs to local roads that remain in poor condition following this past winter, State Rep. Bill Straus, D-Mattapoisett, has announced

Marion will receive $95,563, Mattapoisett has been allocated $143,316 and Rochester will get $226,278 in state funding through the program, according to Straus.

The Winter Recovery Assistance Program, or WRAP, was funded with an appropriation of $100 million in legislation passed in April.

Cities and towns will be allocated funds based on the total number of road miles owned by the municipality and will be reimbursed for amounts expended on the rehabilitation and resurfacing of roadways and the replacement of traffic control devices.

“Winter always takes its toll on roads here in New England, but it does seem that this winter was particularly bad and fortunately we were able to provide this additional state money for local repairs,” said Straus, who serves as House co-chair of the legislature’s Joint Committee on Transportation.
