Tri-Town weathers a snowy Sunday
With heavy snowfall across Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester continuing through Monday, residents are “hunkering down” and waiting out the storm.
Rochester Town Administrator Cameron Durant said the town treated roads before the storm began and has been consistently plowing as snow has continued.
He said particular attention has been given to ensuring easy access to the Center on Aging, which operates as a warming center, in the case of power outages. While there have been temporary outages, he said the warming center has not been needed.
“Power is going on and off throughout town, which is fairly common in Rochester, with the heavy tree capacity along the main fairway and streets,” Durant said.
In Mattapoisett, resident Mary Dermody said her yard has quickly filled up with snow since the storm began, and reported strong winds throughout the afternoon.
Dermody spent the snow day cheering on the Patriots and avoiding the snowy conditions.
“I’ve hunkered down all day, I don’t go out,” she said.
