Following a report of the smell of smoke, the Mattapoisett Fire Department responded to the four unit apartment and observed smoke coming from the building. Fire Chief Andrew Murray said one party was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The remaining residents, including one dog, were safely evacuated according to Murray.
“All the crews worked very diligently to keep the fire from spreading to the main structure,” Murray said.
Murray said the fire alarms were activated when the department arrived on scene, and that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“We found pretty much the area where we believe it may have started,” Murray said.
Mattapoisett, Marion, Rochester, Fairhaven and Acushent Fire Departments all responded to the call.
