True colors: Old Rochester students honored at congressional art show
PLYMOUTH — There’s nothing abstract about Old Rochester Regional High School receiving recognition for student artwork at the Ninth Congressional District Art Show, hosted by the Plymouth Center for the Arts on Friday, April 4.
Three Old Rochester student artists were presented with Honorable Mentions given by Congressman Bill Keating at the event.
Junior MJ Brissette won an Honorable Mention in the painting category for his piece titled “My American Gothic,” an homage to the famous Grant Wood painting “American Gothic.”
Senior Devyn Southern's painting titled “Devyn Devyn Devyn Devyn” also won an Honorable Mention in the painting category.
Senior Owen Osterday crafted a cardboard collage titled “Layers of Personality,” which won an Honorable Mention in the mixed media category.
Fifteen students had their artwork displayed in congressional art show, including Georgia Bailey, Kelsi Chick, Sara Duane, Phoenix Ducharme, Eden Dupre, Lily Hinds, Cy Huggins, Varunyu Phimolmas, Lauren Sherpa, Madison Spangler and Tessa Winslow.
“These students, and our art teachers, have a deep commitment and passion for the arts. That's very clear by just looking at the works they produce and the excitement that they express," said Superintendent Michael Nelson. "Thank you to Congressman Keating for hosting this event and for the opportunity it provides our art students to share their work with the community.”
