Trump, Biden win in Tri-Town
In Tuesday’s presidential primary, former Vice President Joe Biden topped the vote tally in the Tri-Town, winning in Marion, Mattapoisett and Rochester.
President Donald J. Trump received 1,132 votes in a seemingly no-contest race for the Republican Party primary election.
Biden won 657 votes in Mattapoisett, 541 votes in Marion and 366 votes in Rochester.
Although he is gaining traction nationally, Sen. Bernie Sanders received only 894 votes.
In the Tri-Town, Sen. Warren won 17.3% of all Democratic votes, Michael Bloomberg won 14.4% of the votes and Rep. Gabbard won 1.3% of the votes. The March 3 primary results were unofficial. Bloomberg announced March 4 that he was dropping out of the race.
A total of 4,013 voters cast their ballot for Democratic candidates, while only 1,277 residents voted Republican.
Between 2016 and 2020, there was a 85.8% increase in ballots cast for the Democratic party, while Republican voters saw a 36.8% decrease in turnout.
Of Marion’s 4,134 registered voters, 1,783, or 43.1% of voters, participated in this election, down 6.7% from 2016.
In Rochester, 30.68% of the town’s 4,654 registered voters cast a ballot in this election, and 2.4% of the voting population opted for early voting.
At this time, polling numbers for Mattapoisett are not available.
