Two Gateway Youth Hockey teams win in opener
The Gateway Youth Hockey Squirts opened the first game of the Yankee Conference and beat the Lower Cape Coyotes 9-1 at Charlie Moore Arena in Orleans Saturday, Sept. 7. Chris Gauvin, R.J. Vickery and Matthew Quinlan each had two goals. Austin Fleming, Luke Mello also scored and rookie Bailey Tieu earned his first career goal. Luke Mello, Ryker King, Ben Martins and Tyler Kelly and goaltender Thomas Galavotti offered solid defense.
The league’s Pee Wee 2 “Warriors” also won and defeated the Lower Cape Coyotes on the same day. Both teams skated to a scoreless stalemate in the first frame. Steven Strachan offered flawless goaltending. Eventually, Dan Flynn provided a spark in the second period, netting back-to-back goals. Ben DeMoranville passed the puck to his brother Jake who then scored. Robert Ramsay also scored. The defensive pairing of Noah DeMoranville and Jared Westgate contributed to the team’s dominance.
