Two officers join Marion Police Department staff
MARION — New faces will be seen patrolling the town of Marion in the near future as the Select Board approved the appointments of two new officers on Tuesday, June 18.
Kayla Sylvia will be taking on a full-time role and James MacDonald was appointed to a part-time position.
According to Marion Police Chief Richard Nighelli, Sylvia, who is currently on her honeymoon, has been working as an officer for the New Bedford Police Department for the last 6 years.
Nighelli added that Sylvia has a Bachelor’s Degree from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and is currently pursuing a second degree in wildlife conservation.
She is also an active member of the Air National Guard and meets all requirements for the position, according to Nighelli.
MacDonald has been working for the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department since 2010.
“He has many certifications in management,” said Nighelli. “Mr. MacDonald has responded to numerous regional incidents and helped bring these high risks to peaceful, lawful resolutions.”
MacDonald is also a certified firearms instructor.
MacDonald will start on June 23 and Sylvia will start on June 30.
