Upcoming programs at the Mattapoisett Library
The Mattapoisett Library is now open on Sundays from 1-4 p.m., until Memorial Day. Looking for a fun new fall program? Attend storytime, learn to use a 3-D printer, or meet a reading therapy dog this fall.
Fall Storytimes
New storytimes began the week of September 12th, and the series will run for eight weeks. No registration is required. Adults are encouraged to stay for the storytime and enjoy the reading and discussions. Call the children's department for more information.
Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.: A nursery rhyme program for children up to 2 years old. Children and their adult caregivers actively participate with rhymes, songs, instruments, and puppets to foster early literacy skills and have fun.
Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.: A 30-minute storytime for children age 2-3 years and their adult caregiver.
Fridays at 10:30 a.m.: This 30-minute storytime for children ages 3-5 years who are getting ready to go to school.
Read with Breton
Lenore Everett and her dog Breton, are available the second Saturday of each month for a group story time in the morning and also for individual 15-minute reading sessions with children. This is a wonderful opportunity for children who need to practice reading in a low-stress setting. Sign children up at the children's circulation desk.
Chess Club
Join chess instructor Jim Kegle on Tuesday and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. to learn chess skills and strategies. All abilities are welcome. No registration is necessary.
Fall 2017 Chess Tournament
K-12 Chess Players are invited to registration for the Mattapoisett Library's Fall Chess Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, October 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The tournament is free but players must register in advance.
Learn 3-D Printing
Two 3-D Printing Academies have been scheduled for students age 10 and up. On either Saturday, September 16 from 2-4 p.m., or Tuesday, September 26 from 4-6 p.m., learn to create designs and operate the library's 3-D printer. Limited space is available. Email esherry@sailsinc.org to register.
3-D Printing for Adults
On Tuesday, October 10 from 6:30-8 p.m., adults can learn to use the library's 3-D printer to fix household items, create gardening tools and help students enhance school projects. Sign up by emailing esherry@sailsinc.org or visit the Reference Desk.
Poetry Reading with Barbara Siegel Carlson
Poet and translator Barbara Carlson will be reading from her newly published collection "Once in Every Language" on Saturday, September 23 at 2 p.m. Copies of her books will be available for purchase and signing. Refreshments will be available, courtesy of the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library.
Art Project for Children in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
Children are invited to experience the artistic style of Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky on Saturday, September 23 at 11 a.m. Children will see the Kandinsky Circle Trees and apply his famous circle technique to a fun art project inspired by beautiful fall trees. Children should be registered in the Children's Department of the Library.
New Book Discussion Group
Join other avid readers the second Sunday of each month in a new book discussion group facilitated by Bobbi Gaspar. The next meeting will be held Sunday, October 8 at 2 p.m. The group will be discussing "Still Life" by Louise Penny. Fiction and non-fiction titles will be read and discussed. Refreshments will be provided. Sign up and receive a copy of the book at the circulation desk.
Friends' Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Mattapoisett Library's next used book sale will be held on Saturday, October 14tfrom 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Donations are accepted any day the library is open. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library.
Wireless Access
Patrons may borrow a T-Mobile Wireless Hotspot for one week at a time. The option is ideal for cottages and boats without Internet access.
Check out a Metal Detector
Those interested in doing a little amateur archaeology, look no further. The library has two metal detectors that may be checked out with an adult library card.
Ticket to Ride
Borrow a great bicycle for the day with a SAILS adult library card. A helmet and bike map come with the bicycle rental.
