WITH VIDEOS: Sippican Choral Society presents 'Many Moods of Christmas'

Dec 2, 2012

With years and years of holiday music to draw from, the Sippican Choral Society had the tough task of narrowing down the list for its 48th annual holiday concert to just 20 selections.

“The Many Moods of Christmas” debuted in Marion on Sunday night with a variety of holiday songs.

From 18th century Irish carols to the more modern “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” the concert embraced the best aspects of the holiday season, said Deborah Osuch, president of the society.

“It’s very eclectic and it went together really well,” Osuch said. “It’s been a tough year with cataclysmic weather and a contentious presidential race. The holidays help put everything aside.”

Osuch commended musical director Brian Roderick for finalizing the song list for the concert.

“Brian amazes me every year,” Osuch said. “He picks a theme and then he goes into our library of songs. He manages to honor our past and combine our older songs with new music.”

On Sunday, the society was joined by the young members of the Southcoast Children’s Chorus for a few numbers such as “Deck the Halls With Boughs of Holly” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful.”

Of the children’s chorus, Osuch said, “They were so wonderful.”
