Village Estates owner seeks help tracking water usage
The owner of the Marion Village Estates wants to pinpoint the high water users in his building, but the town won't be able to do much to help.
At their Tuesday meeting, Selectmen discussed conversations with developer Ken Steen on his desire to install water meters for all residents at his affordable housing complex at 32 Village Drive. Currently, town practice is to use one meter for each building, Selectman Jon Henry said.
Acting Town Administrator Judy Mooney said Marion Superintendent Robert Zora discussed the matter with Steen and said he can install meters if he wants, but this would not involve the town.
"They would be owned by him," explained Henry.
The current situation is set up so the town has legal recourse against the building's owner, as opposed to individual residents, if water bills are not paid.
"All I care about is knowing that we're accounting for our water and billing accordingly," Select Chair Stephen Cushing said.
The Selectmen chose not to act on the matter.
