Virginia “Ginny” Oliver, 65, passed away Dec. 27 surrounded by loving family and friends. Born in Middleboro to Charles Smith and Patricia Ann Behan, and grew up amongst her eight siblings in New Bedford.

Ms. Oliver attended New Bedford Public Schools and graduated in 1969 from New Bedford High School. Upon graduation she went on to earn certificates from the American Institute of Banking and was the first female treasurer at the Southeastern Bank and Trust Company in New Bedford. A true South Coast local, Ms. Oliver spent her time walking on the beach with friends, quahogging and sailing. She learned to sail as an adult and became a devoted member of the Low Tide Yacht Club for many years. She also enjoyed creating unique items for her home, filling it with seashells and tranquil objects representative of the sea. Ms. Oliver enjoyed cultivating her garden, always producing the most beautiful hydrangeas in multiple colors. Ms. Oliver had a passion for healthy cooking and was always working on new and delicious recipes; her famous stuffed quahogs and New England style chowder were always a crowd favorite. She enjoyed traveling with her friends ‘the October girls’ and was ever ready for a new adventure.
