Zoning Board reviews Habitat plans for Marion home
The Marion Zoning Board of Appeals is asking for additional time to review plans for Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity’s first home in Marion.
On Thursday, the Zoning Board continued the public hearing for the Habitat home to March 7. “If everything is kosher, we’ll just take it from there,” said interim Zoning Board Chair Eric Pierce.
Habitat first proposed to build a home at 185 Wareham Road in Marion in 2009. Since then, the project has undergone review with the Planning Board and Selectmen.
The Planning Board granted approval to the project last summer.
In December, an existing structure was torn down on the 19,000 square-foot lot to make way for the 1,100 square-foot single-family home. The home will include three bedrooms and one bathroom.
The project is now seeking a special permit from the Zoning Board to bypass local zoning regulations that the home does not meet, such as 200 feet of frontage between the home and the road.
The home would be constructed on the back portion of the lot to maximize the benefits of the solar panels that have been donated to Habitat to help cut down on electricity costs for the owners.
“We want to push the home to the east to allow the family to exist on solar power,” said architect Will Saltonstall, who has overseen the design of the home.
The board members agreed to continue discussions in March.
