Families flock to fire department open house

The Mattapoisett Fire Department hosted its annual open house for the community on Thursday night as part of the national Fire Safety Prevention Week.
Kids got the opportunity to extinguish fires, practice their water hose aiming skills, and climb aboard the department's fire trucks.
For the latter, Dispatcher Patrick Dawson told kids, "There are only two rules: no horns and no buttons!"
Inside the fire house was a smorgasbord of snacks as well as fire hats for kids and information on fires safety.
