Land Trust to lead walk in Lionberger Woods
The Rochester Land Trust will lead a walk on its Lionberger Woods property on Sunday, June 5 at 1 p.m.
The property has taken some time make accessible. Although the trust received the 26.5 acres from the Haskell Ridge development in 2006, it was inaccessible due to wetlands. The trust’s purchase of an adjacent 11-acre parcel from Charlotte and Michael Spieldenner provided the needed access to the property. The purchase was finalized in January with the help of a grant from the Buzzard’s Bay National Estuary Program.
That property also opened up another 5.8-acre parcel owned by the Conservation commission that was landlocked.
The trust named it’s 37.5-acre property after Arthur and Alene Lionberger whose contributions helped the RLT preserve land in town.
The property is located at approximately 75 Haskell Ridge Road, at the bottom of the hill off of Walnut Plain Road, behind the town owned drainage parcel. Walkers should meet by the split rail fence and follow the left side path to the kiosk at the property entrance.
