Mary McNamee, 93

Mary Margaret (Hayes) McNamee died March 8 at the Sippican Health Care Center, Marion, after a long illness at the age of 93. She was a resident of Norwood and Wareham.

She was born in Norwood where she attended St. Catherine’s School, Class of 1938 and Norwood High School, Class of 1941. Mary was an active member of St. Catherine’s Sodality for 70 years. She was a member of St. Catherine’s Drum and Bugle Corps. Mary also served on the Committee for the 75th Anniversary of St. Catherine’s of Sienna Church.

In 1953, she married Francis McNamee and lived in Norwood and summered in Wareham. Mary was a member of the Tobey Hospital Guild and the Wareham Historical Society.

In the 1970s, she started an antiques business with her only son Francis. They had shops in Wareham, Nantucket and finally in Marion. The Wicker Porch became the Marion Antique Shop and grew into one of the largest and most successful antique businesses in New England. They also started Marion Antique Auction Company. Mary was still working up to the age of 90.

She is survived by her son Frank McNamee, Jr. and his wife Diane of Marion. She was predeceased by her twin sister Margaret Mary Hayes, her brother John Hayes and her beloved husband Francis H. McNamee, Sr.

Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 11 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10 at the funeral home.
