It was a fight to the finish for the Old Colony Cougars varsity boys' basketball team on Monday, January 8. The team lost 73-79 to the Cape Cod Tech Crusaders after leading in the first half.

"It was tied in the first quarter," said Old Colony varsity basketball head coach Matt Trahan. That was before Old Colony's players pulled ahead, beginning the second half with a score of 45-39 versus the Crusaders.

The lead slowly diminished in the third quarter; eventually, Cape Cod Tech's players took the lead, 58-59.

The Crusaders never relinquished the lead once they had it, though the Cougars didn't go down without a fight. They managed to close the gap to a single point in the fourth quarter, 73-74.

It was not to be though, as Cape Cod Tech players sunk another basket—and another. The final score of the game was 73-79.

"It was a tough night," Trahan said. "We were doing really well, but [Cape Cod Tech] came out strong in the second half. We were just blocking body blows. We fought back and got within a point, but it slipped away again," he said. "Still, you never want to give seventy-nine points away. That's too much."
