Two grants funded by the Americans with Disabilities Act will bring improvements to Rochester's Town Hall and Council on Aging building this summer.

Rochester's Facilities Manager Andrew Daniel has secured the two grants totaling $75,000 at maximum, Rochester's Town Administrator Suzanne Szyndlar announced at a Board of Selectmen meeting on January 22.

The first grant, offering a maximum of $25,000, will fund the costs of purchasing and installing a new automatic door at Rochester's Council on Aging, as well as creating a pathway from the building's conference room to the front of the building, which Szyndlar said was a safety improvement.

The second grant offers a maximum of $50,000. It will be used to add disability-compliant parking to the Rochester Town Hall parking lot, as well as adding an automatic door and ADA-compliant threshold to the Town Hall's conference room. It will also fund the creation of a disability-compliant bathroom in the Town Hall building.

The money must be used and all projects completed by the end of June, Szyndlar said.
