Mattapoisett Selectmen appoint new police interim captain, sergeant
MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Board of Selectmen voted to approve Jason King as the new interim police captain and Justin King as a police sergeant after hearing favorable testimony from Mary Lyons at their Oct. 23 meeting.
Lyons based the hiring decision on the answers that potential candidates for the two positions submitted to the department, as well as the men’s record with the department.
Jason King has served with the Mattapoisett Police Department since 1994. Before his new appointment he was serving as a sergeant in the detective division and helping out with the duties of the captain while the previous captain, Anthony Day, was out.
Justin King has served with the department since 1997, and worked as a patrol officer before his promotion to sergeant.
Immediately after the board voted to approve the new sergeant and captain the two were sworn in.
The room was filled with well wishers there to watch as the two men were appointed to their new positions.
