Mosquito control at top of 2013 budget preparations

Nov 22, 2011

For those looking forward to a pest-free summer, Plymouth County will be holding a public hearing Dec. 8 to discuss mosquito control for the proposed 2013 budget.

"This is one meeting people should be aware of," said Rochester Town Administrator Richard LaCamera.

During the Nov. 21 Board of Selectmen meeting, LaCamera addressed the board with the details for the public hearing, which will take place in Kingston. According to LaCamera, this would be the ideal forum for any concerned citizens to voice their opinions of the budget.

“I know there was some concern with some of the residents with the spraying that was done last summer alone,” LaCamera said. “I want to make people aware of the meeting.”

LaCamera added that by spreading the word on the meeting, the concerned citizens will be proactive in addressing their issues with the budget sooner rather than later. He said it would be less beneficial for the town’s residents to voice their opinion only when they need mosquito control instead of preparing for it in the budget.

Board member Naida L. Parker agreed with LaCamera.

“I would suggest people go online to the website if they are not able to attend the meeting and make their comments online,” Parker said.

Whether people are able to attend the 3 p.m. meeting or not, LaCamera and Parker said, at least they have the opportunity to voice their concerns which can then be addressed by the appropriate officials.

According to board member Bradford N. Morse, the Rochester’s percent of the 2013 Plymouth County budget of $1,558,472 is $48,667.

“I don’t mind paying for it if we get something for it,” Parker said in regards to the mosquito control aspect of the 2013 budget.
