Students plunge into vernal pools at Marion Natural History Museum

Apr 15, 2025

Vernal pools are shallow, seasonal bodies of water that serve as habitats for shrimp, frogs, reptiles and the like.

Last week, The Marion Natural History Museum’s after-school group dove into these pools to learn about the temporary nature of these important habitats. Students enjoyed handling Wood Frog eggs and taking a closer look into the South Shore’s community of aquatic invertebrates.

The museum will be open during April vacation week for crafts and further exploration. A listing of all upcoming programs can be found at www.marionmuseum.org.
