Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride adds 20-mile option for 20th Annual Event
The 20th Annual Buzzards Bay Watershed Ride will offer a new 20-mile route this year, running from the Bourne Bridge to Woods Hole.
The ride, organized by the Buzzards Bay Coalition, will take place Sunday, Oct. 4.
The event includes multiple route lengths that pass through farmland, villages, cranberry bogs and coastal roads, ending in Woods Hole along Buzzards Bay.
Proceeds support the Coalition's work to protect and restore the Buzzards Bay watershed.
Riders on the new 20-mile route will start at Bourne Intermediate School on Trowbridge Road. Organizers said the shorter route is intended to open the event to a wider range of riders.
Registration is available at savebuzzardsbay.org/ride. The fee is $65 with a $300 fundraising minimum through July 31. The fee increases to $75 starting Aug. 1.
The event includes rest stops, lunch, mechanical support, a SAG wagon and optional shuttle service for riders and bicycles, along with a gathering at the finish line.
Additional information, including cycling routes, is available on the Coalition's website.
Funds raised through the Coalition's Swim, Run and Ride events support its work in preservation, restoration and sustainable use of Buzzards Bay and its watershed.
The Coalition has more than 14,000 members and engages in outdoor education, research and advocacy work related to the bay's ecosystem.
Major sponsors for the ride include Southcoast Health, Blount Clam Shack and Town Hall Dental and Spa.
The Coalition is seeking additional business sponsors and volunteers for race day. More information is available by contacting Kate Reilly, events manager, at 508-999-6363, ext. 208, or reilly@savebuzzardsbay.org.
