Celtic songs fill Mattapoisett Museum for St. Patrick's Day
MATTAPOISETT — The Vox Hunters, a Providence-based band, filled the Mattapoisett Museum with traditional Irish tunes in a St. Patrick’s Day celebration Saturday, March 14.
The band, made up of Benedict Gagliardi, Armand Aromin and Flannery Brown, returned to town for another performance after appearing last year for a similar celebration.
“People enjoyed it last year and so the museum asked us to come back,” Gagliardi said.
Gagliardi grew up in Connecticut and developed an interest in folk songs when he was in high school there.
“I was initially doing sea music, nautical music, sea shanties and work songs, but quickly found traditional Irish music through open jam sessions,” he said.
He also played at the Mattapoisett Museum as a solo artist two years ago, along with musician Mark Roberts, who plays flute and bazooka and banjo.
Gigliardi said his fellow musician has also been in the Irish music scene for a long time.
The trio of performers were brought to Mattapoisett via a taxpayer-funded grant recently acquired by the museum. They harmonized to traditional Irish tunes, with several French numbers thrown in during the concert.
