Children and family programs at Mattapoisett Library
MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Free Public Library has free upcoming programs and events for all ages.
Mattapoisett Library is having Saturday Storytime for families on Aug. 29 and Sept. 5. Storytime starts at 10:30 a.m. and includes music, books, activities and crafts.
There will be a sunset movie showing on the library lawn on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. The library encourages families to bring a blanket, snacks and chairs to watch “The LEGO Movie.”
Every Thursday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., the library has a Literary Cafe for adults. It functions as a book club with coffee and tea, book discussions and book recommendations. The Fantasy Book Club will meet Sept. 9 at 6 p.m., choosing fantasy books for the next few months.
The adult writing group meets on Sept. 8 from 5-7 p.m. The group does writing exercises, out-loud readings of work, peer reviews and silent writing. Some additional adult programs include a 30-minute mindfulness and meditation session on Sept. 11 at noon and a craft workshop on Sept. 12 at 1 p.m.
Teens can make a metal beaded bookmark on Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. for a back-to-school craft.
The Food for Fines food drive will continue until August end. The library will deduct $1 worth of late fees for each donation of a non-perishable item, up to the total amount owed. Donations must be non-perishable, not expired and unopened. Some suggested donations other than typical canned goods and pantry staples include baby essentials, toiletries, household items and pet essentials.
Family storytime Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. will return on Sept. 17. Baby storytime on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. will start on Sept. 25.
