Despite sideline support, Tabor field hockey falls to Greenwich
MARION — Although Tabor Academy held its Tabor Day Saturday, rallying alumni to come support student athletes and new hall of fame inductees, the celebratory spirit on campus wasn’t enough to bolster the varsity field hockey team, which lost 0-3 to Greenwich Academy.
When the ball went down in the first face off, Greenwich immediately ran it onto Tabor’s side of the field, scoring on the second play. Both teams moved the ball well, but Tabor was unable to score when they were in Greenwich territory.
About halfway through the first half, Greenwich stole the ball and ran the length of the field for another score. Greenwich had a strong offensive line, and although Tabor’s defense was strong enough to keep them from scoring most of the time, their offense lacked the firepower to move down the field and put Tabor on the scoreboard.
The game would remain 0-2 for most of the second half, despite two timeouts in the play for both teams to huddle and talk strategy. With just two minutes left in the game and Greenwich on Tabor’s half of the field, the home team tried to make a defensive play but gave up another score.
The outcome of the Oct. 13 game puts the field hockey team at 6-4 this season.
