Johanna Gibbs passed away on December 11, 2025. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Pricher (Mike) and granddaughter Olivia, of Ohio, nephew David Gibbs (Laurie) of Rochester, MA, aunt Katherine Rounsville of Wareham, MA, and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Helen Gibbs of East Wareham, MA, brother Paul Gibbs of East Wareham, MA, uncle Joseph Rounsville (Katherine) of Wareham, MA, aunt and uncle Winifred and Tyler Blethen of Marion, MA, and second husband John Cote.
Johanna graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School in 1966, and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in 1967. She worked at Mass Maritime Academy before marrying and moving to Washington DC and starting a family. Johanna continued her education, graduating from University of Maryland with a degree in psychology, then earning her law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1980. She retired as an executive from Bank of America after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Johanna was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and mentor. She was passionate about politics and history, and enjoyed volunteering at the polls in recent elections. She was an avid reader and gifted knitter, known for the baby blankets she made for friends’ grandchildren. Johanna was generous with her time, mentoring colleagues throughout her career. Traveling frequently in her retirement, she always remembered her friends and family with gifts from destinations across the world. A true New Englander, Johanna loved the Patriots, a good gin and tonic, and summer trips to the beach. As a mother and grandmother, she was encouraging and kind, and enjoyed shopping trips and vacations with her girls. Johanna was also an animal lover, never forgetting to feed the birds and squirrels, and adopting 4 Westies over the years that brought her great joy.
Johanna was kind and loving, smart and thoughtful. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2025 at Chapman Funerals and Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rt. 28), Wareham at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Marion. A Celebration of Life to follow in the spring in Baltimore, MD.
