Marion appoints election warden
MARION — With town elections quickly approaching, Marion appointed an election warden to oversee voters choosing candidates for the Select Board and various committees across town.
Elisabeth Horan, of Fairhaven, was appointed for the role and sworn in at the Select Board’s Tuesday, March 31 meeting.
She will serve as the election warden this year, and will be responsible for day-of operations at the Marion polling location, including maintaining order in the polling place, preventing interference with the voting process and ensuring election laws are followed.
The Fairhaven town clerk had been friends with Marion’s former town clerk, and volunteered for the role after she met with new Town Clerk Katrina Desroches and heard she needed help.
She said she is excited to learn about how Marion conducts its elections. Fairhaven has six precincts that vote at one location, so she said she is glad she will only be overseeing Marion’s one precinct.
“I'm excited to learn how Marion does it — every town does election work slightly differently,” Horan said. “I think it's going to be fantastic to have one precinct in one location. It's going to be exciting that it's different (from Fairhaven).”
