Marion Special Town Meeting approves land transfer, additional liquor license
MARION — Voters quickly took care of business at a Special Town Meeting on Monday, March 23 at Sippican Elementary School.
Two town departments swapped land to aid development of a bike and walking trail known as the shared use path and created an additional liquor license to allow J. Sull Wines to sell all alcoholic beverages
The first item approved transferred a town-owned parcel from the Open Space Acquisition Commission to the Select Board, through which part of the planned shared use path will run.
In exchange, the town gave the commission a parcel on Old Indian Trail to be used for conservation or recreation purposes.
The town will also issue an additional liquor license to J. Sull Wine, at 119 Wareham Road, allowing the business to sell all alcohol for off-premise consumption
“I have been buying wine and so forth from these two kind folks that run J. Sull Wine, and I would strongly urge approval of this article,” resident Alan Menard said before Town Meeting passed it.
The store is owned and operated by Rochester resident Joal Sullivan. He opened the store last year after Sullivan Wine and Spirits in Wareham, which he ran for over 20 years, was sold in December 2024.
This meeting comes before Spring Town Meeting in May, and contained “a couple of housekeeping articles and we thought it was a prudent time to get squared away,” Select Board Chair Randy Parker said.
