Marion town clerk brings new tune to Town House

MARION — New Town Clerk Madie-Lynn Bourgeois splits her time behind a desk by day and a microphone by night.

Joining the town this week, the former administrative clerk for the Bristol County Registry of Deeds and part-time wedding singer brings legal know-how, an eagerness to connect with people and attention to detail to her new post.

She said working in the Registry of Deeds taught her how to record things properly and gave her experience helping answer resident questions about various forms and processes. 

With state elections coming up in September, Bourgeois said she’s focused on preparing for a smooth election in her first few months on the job. 

The Dartmouth resident grew up in Acushnet, and said she loves the small-town feel of Marion that reminds her of her hometown. She said she looks forward to being someone residents can rely on for help.

“I'm somebody that they can trust,” she said. “I'm judgment free, and I, if I don't know something, I will absolutely go above and beyond to find out what their needs are.”

The town clerk spends most of her weekends performing at weddings and other events across the South Coast, and said the artistic expression helps her balance out her technical job.

 It also helps her at her day job.

Along with getting comfortable interacting with people as a performer, she said it has also helped her sharpen her coordination skills as she works with couples on scheduling and details.

She spent about a decade performing in local bands and was asked to audition for Wilson Stevens, a Boston-based talent management agency, about four years ago. Since then, she’s been singing at special events from April to December each year.

“I've been singing since I was four,” Bourgeois said. “My father was a big person to push me to do that. I love music, I've always been drawn to it.”
