Marion runner makes school history

BOURNE — Junior track runner Sam Fischer, a Marion resident who attends Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School, made school history with his performance at the Mayflower League Cross Country Championship

He finished fifth in the meet’s large division Tuesday, Oct. 20 and earned Mayflower League All-Star honors. His time of 17 minutes 57 seconds earned him the all-star recognition, which is awarded to the top seven finishers in each division.

Fischer is the first student in Upper Cape Tech history to earn these honors in both the small and large divisions. He received the honor in the small division last year before the school moved up to the large division this season.

He also holds the school’s all-time 5K record with a time of 17 minutes 28 seconds.

“We are incredibly proud of Sam and what he has accomplished,” cross country Coach Bobby Genereau said. “To earn all-star recognition in two different divisions speaks to his talent, work ethic, and ability to compete at a high level. This is a tremendous achievement for Sam and a proud moment for Upper Cape Tech.”
