Coach Rick Regan said this has been the focus of his work with the team, whether his players are improving their on-court skills or becoming better teammates.
“We talk about that every day, about just getting better and improving,” he said. “The girls work at it, and they have a good team camaraderie.”
Along with aiming for consistent improvement, Regan said he hopes to see the team win the conference and make a run at the state tournament.
The team currently has a 4-1 record, and Regan said he is happy about how their season has begun. While they have won most of their games so far, he said players are also “responding to adversity very well” as they face challenging competition.
“They care about basketball. They want to be successful. They put the time in to be better, and I know they’ll continue to do that as the season goes on,” Regan said.
Regan said it has also been challenging to lose several seniors who graduated last year, but this year’s sophomores have stepped up to help their older counterparts.
Zoe Papadakis, one of those sophomores, said the team works well together despite being so young.
“We've been moving the ball better, and everybody's stepping into their own roles, even the young players, ” she said.
Papadakis said she has seen fellow sophomore players improving their skills, ability to work with other teammates and confidence increase since last year.
Her personal goals, she said, were similar. She said she wants to work better with her team and improve her confidence on the court.
She also wants to make it far in the state tournament.
