A stroke of genius: Sippican School displays over 1000 student art pieces
MARION — More than 1,000 pieces of student artwork decorated Sippican Elementary School for their annual “Arts in Action” show on Wednesday, April 16.
Weaving, printmaking, pottery and painting were among the art pieces showcased at the event, alongside live music and dance.
Students in kindergarten through sixth grade contributed to the display, bringing to life the show’s theme of “A Sea of Creativity.”
“'Arts in Action' is a yearly event at Sippican School that takes months of planning and organizing through a team effort," said Sippican School Art Teacher Joanne Smith. "This fun event is all about celebrating the arts in our school, bringing the community together and creating joyful memories for our students.”
Members of the Pokanoket Tribe also displayed their art alongside the students, including wood burning by Kristin Canto and cupola paintings by New Bedford artist Roy Rossow.
A team of volunteers from the music department, art department, Volunteers at Sippican Elementary, the Sippican Scoop and Old Rochester Regional High School came together to support the event.
"It is truly amazing how all the pieces come together behind the scenes with the help of so many volunteers to create this wonderful event of the arts," said Smith.
Assistant Principal Gregory Thomas praised the talent of the students.
"'Arts in Action' is such an awesome way for our students to demonstrate their talents, get inspired and learn more about the arts from all the hands-on exhibits and stations that we ran throughout this wonderful event," said Assistant Principal Thomas. "Thank you to everyone who helped out to organize, set up and operate this event."
