MARION — The Town of Marion will soon be celebrating the opening of its new Marion Maritime Center and the completion of the $3.5 million construction project.

Work on the building was completed earlier this year, following around 10 months of construction and five years of planning.

The building will be staffed by four permanent, full-time Marion Police Department employees and several seasonal employees and has new technology systems, including radio systems, marine radios and cameras. The facility also features space that can be used for community meetings.

The project was funded with the help of a $1.9 million Seaport Economic Council grant through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development.

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Aug. 26 starting at 10 a.m. at 1 Island Wharf to celebrate.

“This is an incredible asset for our town, as the base of operations for our harbormaster services, as part of the Marion Police Department,” said Police Chief Richard Nighelli. “This project has been an amazing team effort, and we are grateful for this opportunity to acknowledge all the hard work that has been done and all the community support that has made this all possible.”
