Auditions open at the Marion Art Center for ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’
MARION — The Marion Art Center will hold auditions for "Tiny Beautiful Things," a play based on the book by Cheryl Strayed, adapted by Nia Vardalos and directed by Jennifer Palmer.
Auditions will take place Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Anne Braitmayer Webb Theater at 80 Pleasant St.
"Tiny Beautiful Things" is based on the online advice column "Sugar," which Strayed wrote anonymously from 2010 to 2012. The play follows Sugar as she draws on her own experiences to answer questions from readers facing personal struggles.
The cast includes Sugar, a woman in her 30s to 50s described as a grounded and empathetic writer, and three "Letter Writers," ages 20 to 30, of any gender, who will play multiple roles requiring quick character changes.
Performances are scheduled for Oct. 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25. Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.
