A creepy cup of joe with ‘Michael Myers’ and the Rochester Police Department

ROCHESTER — Members of the Rochester Police Department served up free cups of joe at Mary Lou’s Coffee with a special guest in tow — the iconic “Halloween” villain Michael Myers.
“We reached out to Michael Myers and he took a break from terrorizing Haddonfield and decided to come to the cranberry bogs and terrorize our small community,” joked Police Chief Michael Assad.
Dressed in the classic Myers mask and jumpsuit, he worked the drive-thru, made coffee, interacted with customers and handed out free drinks.
“It’s all about community engagement and getting the public involved,” said Assad. “We thought, ‘What’s the best way to do that?’ The best way for us would be to put a little Halloween flair to it and who better to invite over to the Rochester community than Michael Myers for Halloween?”
He adds, “[Myers] is a very busy guy, but he loves interacting with our officers.”
Recently, the Rochester Police Department went viral on Facebook yet again — receiving over two million views on a new video featuring “Myers” getting pulled over by an officer in a comedic skit.
Since getting sworn into his role as police chief in August 2024, Assad has made an effort to connect the department with the town through social media and in-person community events.
“It’s all about bringing the police and the community together, bridging that gap and letting everybody know there’s a funnier, softer side of law enforcement,” he explained.
This event is one in a series of gatherings called "Coffee with a Cop," which were established by the police department in February.
The ultimate goal is to “open up conversation.”
“We’re out there to help people and make sure people know that the police are their friends,” Assad said.
