Lisa Regan Durr, 62

Feb 13, 2025

Lisa Regan Durr, 62, of Marion, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on February 2nd, 2025.

Lisa was born November 24th, 1962 in Newton, MA, where she spent her childhood and graduated from Newton South High School.

Lisa leaves behind her loving mother Ann Marie (DiCarlo) Regan, her three siblings, Arthur Regan, Thomas Regan and his wife, Maureen Golgata, Anita Regan and her husband, Paul Westerkamp; and her greatest loves, her children; Chelsea Durr and her partner, Joey Mendes, Troy Durr and his wife, Caroline O'Leary, and Madison Durr, and her partner Evelyn McGivney. Lisa also leaves behind her cherished granddaughters, Isla and Eva, and her great-niece Leanna. Lisa is survived by dozens of foster siblings and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved her deeply.

She was predeceased by her father Thomas J. Regan, her brother, David Regan, her sister, Christina Regan, and her niece, Jennifer Regan, who are all sorely missed.

As a child, she spent time with her Grammy DiCarlo whose lessons in the garden flourished throughout her life.  Coming from a large extended family with lots of kids, Lisa became involved in childcare in her teen years working at the local Montessori school and being on the advisory council of the state’s Office for Children. Lisa’s work in the hospitality industry enabled her to explore the world and appreciate other cultures. Her uncanny ability to foster community and interconnections everywhere was her driving force in all she did.

After living in Maui, Lisa eventually settled in Mattapoisett, where she was elected to serve on the Mattapoisett School Committee.

As a mother, her soul blossomed during the years spent in Marion nurturing Chelsea, Troy, and Madison, watching them grow into the individuals they are today.

Lisa was one of the founders of the Sippican School Garden Club, where she was able to guide young students toward a lifelong love of nature and at the same time was also an integral member of the skateboarding scene across the SouthCoast. She devoted her time to organizations that help youth with limited resources. In moments between, Lisa nurtured those around her with love and kindness, through her own residential gardening business, and more importantly through acts of selfless service. Lisa worked with her sisters, Regan's Creative Health & Home Care, caring for clients wherever they call home.

Lisa will be remembered for her spunky, can-do attitude that radiated positivity to everyone around her. When given three to six months to live, this unwavering positivity and tenacious love for family graced Lisa with two and a half more years of precious memories.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:30 am in the First Unitarian Church, 71 8th Street, New Bedford.

Just as a gardener does not plant for oneself, but for those who come after, in lieu of flowers, the family asks kindly that donations be made to Tri-Town Against Racism, an organization which Lisa was an integral member in founding, as a lifelong believer in peace, social justice, and equity. https://givebutter.com/lisaregandurrscholarshipfund
