Natalie Stephens Mitchell
Natalie Stephens Mitchell was known for her warmth and humor, even in the toughest of life’s moments. She had the rare gift of immediate connection, relating to anyone from her cherished family members to the person behind her in line at the grocery store. Natalie passed away in her Stowe, VT home on March 19, 2026, just a month after her 87th birthday. She is survived by her husband Kent, daughter Susi, son Josh & daughter-in-law Trish, and two grandchildren Thomas & Anna, as well as nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Natalie was born in Boston on February 15, 1939 to Walter & Norma Stephens, and grew up in Marion, Massachusetts. There she attended Tabor Academy, and eventually the Massachusetts College of Art & Design, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Illustration. After an exciting decade working in fashion in New York City, Natalie moved to Vermont in 1968 where she met Kent, her husband of 56 years, on a blind date. Her creative mind was instrumental in the success of their business, House of Troy, a lighting manufacturer based in Hyde Park, VT. Upon retirement, she continued in her creative pursuits, from crafting children’s toys to singing in her local chorale.
Natalie touched the lives of so many, and she will be forever remembered as a talented artist, a barrel of laughs, a great listener, and most of all as a loving mom, wife, & grandmother to her beloved family. A Celebration Of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 11AM at the Stowe Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lamoille Home Health and Hospice (lhha.org) in loving memory of Natalie.
Arrangements are in the care of Lamoille Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at vtfuneralhomes.com.
