MARION — After 50 years, the Marion General Store is closing for an uncertain amount of time.
The store located at 140 Front St. closed officially on April 1. Jack Cheney, owner of the store, is stepping back for the time being.
Cheney’s daughter Whitney Wynne said the family hopes to reopen the store before summer begins.
Wynne explained that due to Cheney’s health and staffing changes, the store needs time to reset before it can open again.
She said that her family is looking for new personnel to run the store, but Cheney plans to keep ownership of the building and the property it sits on.
The family hopes new tenants can continue Cheney’s legacy and remain a cornerstone of the community.
Wynne wanted to remind the community that the family wants to remain invested in the community and is working to reopen. She shared that Cheney is still working in the store everyday during this transition period.
Wynne reiterated she was grateful for the outpouring of support from the community during this time.
