Marion plans for the future by preserving the past
MARION — The Marion Historical Commission is collaborating with a regional planning agency to better protect the town’s history.
The Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, which works with cities and towns on the South Coast, selected Marion for a pilot program to develop a Historic Preservation Plan.
The plan will act as a roadmap for historic preservation as the town grows and continues to develop.
The development district will lead the 18-month project, guiding the historical commission through surveying and inventorying historic resources, and identifying best preservation strategies and tools.
The Historical Commission sought and received approval from the Select Board earlier this year to move forward with the project.
