MATTAPOISETT -- They got a Peep into their future.
Students in the Early Education Program at Old Rochester Regional High School hosted their first community egg hunt Saturday, April 4 at the school.
Children attending were able to participate in a variety of activities organized by students, including visits with the Easter Bunny, face-painting, coloring and “adopting’’ a Peep, the colorful confections associated with the holiday.
Besides providing the community with an Easter-themed event, the event raised money for upcoming activities, including a scheduled trip to Orlando, Fla. next spring.
The students also developed skills they can use in the future, including family engagement and event planning.
“It’s a great learning experience,’’ said early education teacher Liz Kennedy.
One hundred families registered for the event, Kennedy noted, with 30 more attending as walk-ins.
“The support we have from the community is unbelievable,’’ she said.
The class also plans to host a touch a truck activity and a Mother’s Day craft event in May.
Freshman Reese Bolduc reported she enjoyed providing “something fun for the kids.’’
Erin Meehan colored Easter-themed decorations with her sister Whitney Meehan.
“We like Easter and we like getting Easter eggs,’’ she said.
