Marion officials visit Upper Cape Tech
BOURNE — Several Marion town administrators joined state and local leaders for a visit to Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Town Administrator Geoffrey Gorman, Executive Assistant Donna Hemphill and Select Board member Randy Parker toured the school and met with students and staff.
The tour included a demonstration of laser technology in the marine technology program and a discussion of how students are developing technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence needed to enter evolving industries.
The group also saw the progress on the school’s lab modernization project, which includes a new technical facility and virtual reality learning lab.
Student ambassadors and SkillsUSA students spoke with guests about how their education, technical programs, leadership opportunities, and school community have helped shape their goals, and prepare them for college, the workforce, apprenticeships, and continued education in their technical fields.
Culinary arts students prepared a lunch and desserts for the guests, highlighting both their technical skill and creativity. Visitors also saw recent Skills Capital Culinary Grant improvements firsthand, including the new pizza oven and the expanded outdoor dining area which is nearing completion.
“The best way to understand what career and technical education can offer is to see it in action and, most importantly, to hear directly from the students whose lives are being shaped by these opportunities,” Superintendent Roger Forget said.
