Mattapoisett Free Public Library to hold events for all ages
MATTAPOISETT — The Mattapoisett Free Public Library has many upcoming events for adult and youth patrons. All events will be held at the library at 7 Barstow St.
Mindfulness and meditation. Health coach and mindfulness teacher Lauren Masse will lead a peaceful 30-minute mindfulness and meditation session Sept. 11at noon. Beginners and experienced meditators are welcome. The class can be taken in person or virtually, and - registration is optional.
Rebels at Sea. Join author Eric Jay Dolin on Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. as he discusses his 2022 publication "Rebels at Sea: Privateering in the American Revolution." A Q and A with attendees will follow. This program is supported by a grant from the Mattapoisett Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Registration for this event is optional.
Fiber arts clubs.The Sewing and Maker Club will meet Sept. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. for a drop-in session. The Weaving Wednesdays group will meet Sept. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m., also for a drop-in session. More info can be found on the library’s website.
Book clubs. The library offers several monthly book clubs! The Fiction Book Club meets Sept. 20 at 2 p.m., to discuss “Evensong” by Stewart O'Nan. The Nonfiction Book Club will meet Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. to read “The Light Eaters” by Zoë Schlanger. Copies of each book are available at the library. New members are welcome.
Fall Equinox Party. Celebrate the start of autumn with a Fall Equinox Party at the library Sept. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be seasonal beverages and snacks, games, a fall craft, music and socializing. Patrons of all ages are welcome, but registration is required.
Collectibles appraisal. Rick Keller, from Perfect Pastime 617, is offering a free community-wide collectibles appraisal event Sept. 26. He will assess Pokémon and sports cards, memorabilia, coins, watches, video games and consoles, comics, fine and broken jewelry, sterling silver and more! Registration for a ten- minute time slot is required.
After school activities.Each Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m., teens in grades six to 12 can gather in the Student Lounge for snacks, crafts and chill time. Teens and tweens in grades four to 12 can also gather every Friday for T(w)een Friyays in the Student Lounge from 3 to 5 p.m. to play games, read or relax.
Beaded bookmark.Stop by the library Sept. 15 at 3 p.m. to create a beaded metal bookmark. All materials for the craft are provided, and a librarian will be there to guide participants through the process. Teens in grades six to 12 are welcome, and registration is required.
Movie night.The library will hold a free showing of “Camp Rock 2” on Sept. 17 at 3 p.m.Teens in grades six to 12 can relax and watch the movie, socialize with friends and enjoy some snacks. The movie's run time is 104 minutes. No registration required.
Library League. Help us make the library a better place! Teens in grades seven to 12 can come to the monthly Library League meetings to make decisions about the teen collection, programs and community projects. Participants can earn volunteer hours at each meeting. This month's meeting will be held Sept. 24 from 3 to 5 p.m. No registration required.
Storytimes.Thursday and Friday storytimes will be returning soon. Family Storytime, held Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m., will start up again on Sept. 17. Baby Storytime, held Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m., will start up again a week later on Sept. 25.
Leaf walk. Join the library for a short walk on Wednesday, Sept. 30 to collect leaves, and create leaf stamp art. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. and is designed for kids aged 3 and up. No registration is required.
